Good companies invest in research, development and quality to offer increasingly better products and services. Often, however, they end up having to dispute the market with products that are the result of smuggling, piracy, counterfeiting and other illicit acts.
These practices do a lot of damage. Illegal products do not pass proper quality and safety controls, putting people's health at risk. They are usually sold in the informal market, which does not collect taxes. And they discourage good companies from investing in Brazil, hampering economic growth and job creation.
Our work in this area is intense and involves several projects. In partnership with the National Forum Against Piracy and Illegality (FNCP), we coordinate the Movement in Defense of the Legal Market, which brings together 70 entities from business sectors and the public authorities in the fight against smuggling, counterfeiting and adulteration of products, and in the defense of companies' intellectual property.
The illegal market is a worldwide phenomenon and its tentacles cross borders. For this reason, we also operate at an international level. Since 2016, we have been part, for example, of the Latin American Anti-Smuggling Alliance, ALAC, which brings together 15 countries in the fight against smuggling in Latin America.
We believe that the defense of the legal market is an essential condition for the development of Brazil.
